Ever wanted to see a Siberian Tiger while walking with a peacock? You can at the GarLyn Zoo, only a few miles east of Naubinway on US-2.
Garlyn Zoo was established in 1994 and currently houses over a hundred animals from around the world including: alligators, black bears, bobcats, otters, lemurs, reindeer, and Patagonian cavies. What’s a Patagonian cavy, you ask? You have to go and find out! Hint: it’s a mix of rabbit and donkey (at least that’s what it looks like!).
You are allowed to feed many of the animals, which just makes the experience even more fun. Some of the animals, such as the p
eacocks and chickens are allowed to roam free on the grounds, and they let you come up close and personal.
Who doesn’t want to take a selfie with a white peacock? For only $12 you can have that! Children are discounted at $6, and there are family and group rates.
My experience at GarLyn Zoo
I was like a little kid in a candy store at this zoo. The animals all had such great personalities and I could not get enough of them! From fighting African spurred tortoises to llamas making faces to alpaca’s sticking their tongues out at me; I just wanted to mess around all day there.
Of course I had to feed as many animals as possible! You can buy a bag of feed at the visitor’s gift shop or a handful for a quarter along the way. Beware; the animals will fight for your food!
This is a great stop for families, even the older kids should have a good time! It takes about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to go through the zoo, depending on how the animals are behaving and what you want to see. Great place to stop along the drive on the US-2 if you are headed toward or away from the bridge. They are open 7 days a week from 10am-6pm.
Bottom Line: Make the GarLyn Zoo a stop on your next road trip for true family fun that you will not find anywhere near.
